Vijay and son dance for 'Vettaikkaran'

The opening song of Vijay's 'Vettaikkaran' will feature Ilaiya Thalapathy dancing with his seven-year-old son, Sanjay. The song is set to tune by Vijay Antony and choreographed by Shobi. The film is being directed by Babu Sivan.

Vijay began his film career by dancing and appearing in bit parts in his father SA Chandrasekhar's films. It seems, Sanjay is following in the footsteps of his father. The only time the child was exposed to the media glare earlier was when Vijay took him to watch an IPL cricket match.

Vijay has a lot at stake in 'Vettaikkaran', as it follows three back to back disappointments for him at the B.O--'Azhagiya Tamizh Magan', Kuruvi' and 'Villu'.

Amen Pope! But I think I’ll buy a condom anyway

The Pope has raised a furore by proclaiming that people should not use condoms. This is nothing new. The Vatican’s stated policy has always been against any form of birth control, since they believe that it is god who gives us children (pregnancy) so only he can decide who should get pregnant when and where.

The Pope’s comments have drawn angry reactions from health workers and state governments who denounce it as irresponsible. Especially anti-AIDS workers say that it has been proved scientifically that the use of condoms help to prevent AIDS from spreading to a great extent. When the Pope, who is the Roman Catholic guy closest to a Roman Catholic god, makes a proclamation it could have far-reaching consequences.

Well at least I’m glad it was the Pope, not the head of any other religious sect like the Ayatollah Khomeini or the VHP chief, because any protest against their remarks would invite violent reactions. To tell the truth most of the Catholics I know go to church every Sunday but hardly care what is being preached. What they need to know about their faith is in the Bible and that is all that matters.

So anyway the condom companies need not panic or give away free condoms as everything will go on as before.

But seriously I think we should respect science as mush as we respect religion. And I think we should not wait until Judgment Day to vote on whether what the Pope said was right. Lets say it now, with respect: “Amen Pope! But I think I’ll buy a condom anyway.”

ഒരു സ്ഥലപുരാണം

സി പി എം , സി പി ഐ സീറ്റ് തര്‍ക്കത്തില്‍കേരളമെങ്ങും ഉയര്ന്നു കേട്ട പേരാണ് രണ്ടത്താണി . എന്താണീ രണ്ടത്താണി . ഇതൊരു സ്ഥലമാണോ അതോ ഏതെങ്കിലും പദവിയോ മറ്റോ ആണോ. ക്ലാസില്‍ ഇതിനെകുറിച്ച് ചോദ്യം വന്നപ്പോള്‍ ഒരു ഗ്രാമം ആണെന്നായിരുന്നു എന്റെ ഉത്തരം .
അത് സമര്തിക്കുന ഒരു പത്ര വാര്ത്ത കണ്ടിരുന്നു.
മലപ്പുറം ജില്ലയിലെ കോട്ടക്കല്‍ നിന്നു അഞ്ചു കിലോമീറ്റര്‍ അകലെയുള്ള ഒരു സ്ഥലമാണ്‌ രണ്ടത്താണി. രണ്ടാതാണിയിലൂടെ കടന്നു പോകുന്ന ദേശിയ പാതയ്ക്ക് സമീപം മറ്റൊരു ഒരു റോഡുണ്ട്. ഈ റോഡിനു ഇരുവശത്തുമായി വഴിയാത്രകര്‍ക്കായി രണ്ടു അതാനികള്‍ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു . ഇതു കാരണമാനെത്രേ ഈ സ്ഥലം രണ്ടത്താണി എന്ന് അറിയപ്പെടുന്നത്. ഈ സ്ഥലത്തിന് സമീപത്തായി ഉള്ള മറ്റു സ്ഥലങ്ങളാണ് കുട്ടികളതാനി , കരിങ്കല്ലതാനി എന്നിവ . ഈ സ്ഥലങ്ങള്‍ക്കും പേരുകള്‍ കിട്ടിയത് അതാനികള്‍ കാരണമാണ്. മുന്‍ എം എല്‍ എ അബ്ദു റഹ്മാന്‍ രണ്ടത്താണി യും , മുന്‍ എം പി അബ്ദു സമദ് സമദാനിയും ഇതേ നാട്ടുകാരാണ്

SEMINAR ON BIO DIVERSITY

The seminar on" Biodiversity conservation and development " conducted by Bio Diversity board of kerala held on last thursday at pressclub .The seminar was informative for the students and journalist to know about the importance of preservation of forests,wetlands and agriculture in India .The lecture was given by DR B Vijayan chairman of bio diversity board kerala. He also pointed out certain development plans which Govt should impliment for the protection of wetlands of kerala. The activities of board was also explained after the presentation of seminar. The session was also intractive with the students.

NATIONAL THEATRE FESTIVAL

The play kuthirai muttai captures audience with its humorous journey of man who lives all alone in an inn and is desirous of having followers of his own. The play has the audience in splits with actors cooperating well with thier perfomance . Neithalkrishnan who played central charecter of the play deserves appreciation for his brillance in maiden stage perfomance . The set is designed in the shape of a human body drawn on the ground. in place of head structure of palm with five fingers is erected and top of finger hangs a mask of hourse face. Thus the whole play was interesting to me than other plays of theatre festival.

മാനസിക സംകര്‍ഷം നല്കുന്ന ചോദ്യകടലസ്സുകള്‍

ഗാസയില്‍ ഇസ്രയേല്‍ വ്യോമാക്രമണത്തെ തുടര്‍ന്ന് തകര്‍ന്ന കെട്ടിടങ്ങളുടെ അവശിഷ്ട്ടങ്ങള്‍ക്കിടയില്‍ നിന്നു കണ്ടെത്തിയ പെണ്ണ് കുഞ്ഞിന്‍റെ ചിത്രം സാമാന്യ ജനങ്ങളുടെ മനസ്സിനെ ആഴത്തില്‍ മുറിവേല്‍പ്പിച്ച ഒന്നാണ്. മനസ്സാക്ഷിയുള്ള ആര്‍ക്കും ആ ചിത്രത്തെ കുറിച്ചു ഓര്‍ക്കാനോ , ചിന്തിക്കാനോ കഴിയില്ല. എന്നാല്‍, എട്ടാം ക്ലാസ്സിലെ വാര്‍ഷിക പരീക്ഷയിലെ മലയാളം ചോദ്യകടലാസ്സില്‍ ഈ പടം കൊടുക്കുകയും , അതിനെ പറ്റി ഒരു ഉപന്യാസം തയാറാക്കാന്‍ കുട്ടികളോട് ആവശ്യപെടുകയും ചെയ്തിരിക്കുന്നു. ഇതു കുട്ടികളുടെ വൈകാരിക തലങ്ങലെപറ്റി ധാരണയുള്ള ആര്‍ക്കും ചെയ്യാന്‍ കഴിയാത്ത ഒരു കാര്യമാണ് . ഈ പരീക്ഷയുടെ ചോദ്യകടലസ്സു ഉണ്ടാക്കി ഇരിക്കുന്നത്‌ സംസ്ഥാന അക്കാദമിക് കൌണ്‍സില്‍ ആണ് എന്നത് വിചിത്രമായി തോന്നാം. ഇതിനു അക്കാദമിക് കൌണ്സിലിനെ മാത്രം കുറ്റം പറഞ്ഞിട്ട് കാര്യമില്ല.വിദ്യാഭ്യാസ വകുപ്പ്, സംസ്ഥാന സര്‍കാര്‍ എന്നിവയുടെ അക്ഷന്ദവ്യമായ ഒരു തെറ്റായി ഇതിനെ കണക്കാക്കാം. വിദ്യാഭ്യാസ മേഖലയിലെ മുല്യച്യുതിയുടെ ഒരു ഉത്തമ ഉദാഹരണം ആണ് ഇതു. ഇത്തരം പ്രവണതകള്‍ തടയാനും, അതുവഴി വരും തലമുറയെ നേര്‍വഴിക്കു മുന്നോട്ടു കൊണ്ടുപോകാനും, നമ്മുടെ വിദ്യാഭ്യാസ വകുപിനു കഴിയേണ്ടിയിരിക്കുന്നു.
